Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is a heritage-listed zoological garden set across 27 hectares of natural eucalyptus-rich bushland and rainforest. The park was gifted to the National Trust of Australia (Queensland) in 1976, which turned the site into a not-for-profit social enterprise to directly facilitate the park’s rising numbers of native flora and fauna. Today, the Sanctuary is home to native mammals, reptiles, birdlife and amphibians as well as some exotic species. Strong support from locals and the emergence of ecotourism has allowed the Sanctuary to thrive since its inception.

Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary education department provides students have the opportunity to get up close and personal with some of our favourite native Australian animals. Lessons are conducted in the purpose built Discovery Den facility and are aligned to the Australian Curriculum. Alternatively, you can step into another world with our immersive Indigenous Experience. Guided by a qualified Indigenous Education Officer, participants are transported into a new world to learn about traditional weapons, Dreamtime stories, how we are all connected to nature and its animals, and how ochre is made and utilised.

Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary’s Behind The Scenes tours allow exclusive access to VIP spaces, with students having the opportunity to learn about our Wildlife Hospital Deck, Koala Keeping duties, Food Preparation and our Training and Presentations department. With so many options available, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary has your next adventure covered.
