This summer HOTA, Home of the Arts will present Nicole Slater: Rose Gold, the debut solo exhibition from Australian equine artist and Magic Millions ambassador Nicole Slater.
The exhibition has opened ahead of the highly anticipated 2026 TAB Gold Coast Magic Millions Carnival and will celebrate the synergy between sport, luxury, and the visual arts.
Nicole Slater: Rose Gold showcases a series of impressive, large-scale equestrian portraits that reflect Slater’s lifelong connection to the equine community. A professional breeder and equine enthusiast, she brings an intimate understanding of horse anatomy, from musculature to movement, to her dynamic practice.
“I am thrilled to open my first solo exhibition at HOTA Gallery, a venue I truly consider prestigious. It is an incredible honour to showcase my work in such a beautiful and inspiring space,” Nicole Slater said.
“This exhibition also represents a wonderful collaboration with Magic Millions, coinciding with a time when equine families gather on the Gold Coast. I take pride in being a bridge between the art world and the equine community.
“I am particularly excited for the public to experience this collection in person. Viewing the artwork up close offers a completely different perspective—especially the thousands of individual hairs I meticulously paint. The hours of dedication poured into this collection translate into an emotional experience that can’t be captured in a photograph. I look forward to hearing everyone’s thoughts and reactions as they engage with my work.”
From celebrating the majestic beauty of race winning and polo horses, to honouring her beloved rescue horses, Slater's large-scale canvases are set against minimalist backgrounds, drawing focus on the physical form and presence of each horse.
"We are absolutely delighted that Nicole Slater's stunning exhibition will launch ahead of the Magic Millions January Carnival, making her beautiful work available to view by the public at the HOTA Gallery throughout the event.” Magic Millions co-owner, Katie Page said.
I have witnessed Nicole’s artistic process first-hand, she is masterful but her talent goes further, her work captures the power of the horse to move people. Her ability to depict the magical nuance of horses comes from a love and understanding of these magnificent animals.”
In Nicole Slater: Rose Gold, the horse is presented not just as a subject, but as a symbol of memory, light, and presence. Slater uses the warm, fading tones of sunset to reflect her favourite time of day and serve as a gentle reminder to pause, reflect, and appreciate fleeting moments of beauty.
“We are proud to present Australian artist Nicole Slater in her first solo exhibition. Her lived experience with horses has shaped a body of work that is both refined, aesthetically beautiful and richly emotional, and we look forward to seeing how her exhibition connects with our visitors ahead of the Magic Millions season.” Experience Gold Coast Head of Arts and Culture Yarmila Alfonzetti said.
