HOTA Forecasts Family Fun Inside New Children’s Gallery Exhibition

11 Nov 2025

This summer the sky is the limit for curious minds inside the next iteration of HOTA’s Children’s Gallery as Cloudy with a Chance of Art opens to the public.

In a first for the dedicated children’s space, the exhibition will feature a curated display of cloud-inspired artworks that invites visitors to look up and turn their eyes to the sky offering a different viewpoint to traditional gallery exhibitions.

Bringing together art, weather and imagination, the exhibition encourages children to explore the theme of clouds through playful, hands-on experiences. Children can explore the Daydream Zone, play Art Detective with the exhibition mascot, Cloudio, or create with artmaking stations beneath the cloud.

“We are delighted to unveil our latest children’s exhibition, where the next generation of art lovers can explore, imagine and create, in a space that invites them to look up, dream big and reach for the sky,” said HOTA Gallery General Manager, David Don.

Cloudy with a Chance of Art represents a unique opportunity for families to engage with the HOTA Collection, alongside significant artworks on loan from the National Gallery of Australia, the Art Gallery of New South Wales and National Gallery of Victoria, as well as regional collections including Tweed Regional Gallery and Cairns Art Gallery.

Children and their families can learn more about the artists and artworks featured in the exhibition through audio recordings by HOTA’s team of Young Gallery Guides.

Cloudy with a Chance of Art will give families the chance to explore cloud-inspired works from HOTA’s Collection and major pieces on loan from leading Australian artists such as Tim Storrier, William Robinson, and Blak Douglas,” said HOTA Children’s Gallery Curator, Jodi Ferrari.

“Each artist sees clouds differently, and the exhibition brings these perspectives to life through the themes Brewing Clouds, Strange Clouds, and Small and Cloudy. Families will especially enjoy discovering highlights like Chinese-Australian artist Guan Wei’s playful and imaginative Sky 1999.”

As the newest dedicated Children’s Gallery in Australia, HOTA continues to redefine how young audiences experience and connect with art.

Cloudy with a Chance of Art is now open and continues until 1 February 2026.
