The eyes of the world will be on the Gold Coast's iconic waves this May as some of the world's best, and up and coming, surfers search for the ultimate ride.
With not one but two huge surfing events and a new festival celebrating the best of our surf films and photography, the Gold Coast will be transformed into the home of surfing throughout the month of May.
Kicking off with the 2022 Gold Coast Open on Saturday 30 April, this three-day event brings together the best Australian and international surfers to compete for crucial World Surf League qualifying series points at the iconic Burleigh surf break. The birds eye view from the hill makes this the perfect spectators' event and alongside the surfing, you can enjoy markets, music, cinema sessions, and, for those up early enough, sunrise mindfulness and meditation.
From Saturday 7 May the surfing action heads to the southern end of the coast to the world-famous right-hand sandy point break, Snapper Rocks. The Boost Mobile Gold Coast Pro presented by Rip Curl launches the 2022 WSL Challenger Series and is a competition not to miss. Here you'll see some of the world's top surfers go head to head in some of the world's best waves. Thousands of spectators are expected to line the beach at Snapper, and from surrounding viewing areas, to enjoy this surfing spectacle. The event will be live streamed around the world ensuring all eyes are on the Gold Coast for this nine-days of exciting competition.
In between the waves, the inaugural Flotsam Festival (1-8 May) will provide visitors to the Gold Coast with the ultimate surf culture experience. Held at various indoor and outdoor locations across the southern Gold Coast, Flotsam will showcase the best of surf film and photography with a series of short film premieres, workshops, in-depth discussions with film makers and photographers and exhibitions.
