KEN DONE’S VIBRANT WORLD SET TO LAND AT HOTA
Photography by Luisa BrimbleOne of Australia’s most beloved and recognisable artists, Ken Done, is set to paint HOTA, Home of the Arts in colour this September in a new major exhibition celebrating his work.
The vibrant exhibition Ken Done: No Rules captures the spirit of Done’s practice and deep commitment to the process of painting, with his joyful, bold and unmistakably Australian works having captured the public imagination for more than four decades.
From his iconic depictions of the reef and harbour to reflective paintings of his home and garden, Ken Done: No Rules showcases Done’s exuberant painting practice.
This landmark exhibition is set to feature paintings from the 80s to today and will draw largely from Done’s personal collection, capturing his signature optimism and enduring love of colour, nature, and life.

AUSTRALIA’S LARGEST YOUTH ARTS COMPETITION TAKES OVER HOTA
The Gold Coast Eisteddfod returns to HOTA from Saturday 16 August in a competition designed to empower the next generation of performing artists. The showcase provides a safe, inclusive platform for young performers to express their creativity while fostering artistic growth, teamwork and sportsmanship.
Since 1982, Gold Coast Eisteddfod has grown to be the largest arts competition of its kind in Australia. With students and young people performing in categories of bands, dance, choral, orchestra, vocals and drama, there is something for everyone with over 5,500 performances, 120 primary and secondary schools, and over 60 dance studios over the period.
HOTA, Home of the Arts, is thrilled to be a cultural partner to present this incredible showcase of young artistry, and eager awaits the young aspiring performers set to take over the HOTA precinct to inspire a new generation of talent. The Gold Coast Eisteddfod will call HOTA home from Saturday 16 to Wednesday 27 August 2025.
