The 2025 release of Paul Dempsey’s ‘Shotgun Karaoke Vol. II’ (EMI) album saw the Something For Kate frontman revel in the stripped-back and spontaneous approach that brought the party vibes to the subsequent capital city tour. So much so, that he’s doing it again and bringing those sing-along covers to stages across regional Australia on the Shotgun Karaoke Vol. II Regional Tour from May to August.

Expect the setlist to evolve as the night rolls on with live favourites often including Don Henley's nostalgic "Boys Of Summer" alongside Tanita Tikaram's "Twist In My Sobriety", "Grant Lee Buffalo’s Mockingbirds”, Jeff Buckley’s “The Last Goodbye”, David Bowie’s “Life on Mars?” and Aussie band Max Q’s 1989 hit “Way of the World” and many more.

Join us in our Children's Gallery exhibition Aka Sorbie: Saltwater Heart during National Reconciliation Week for a special story time reading with artist Lisa Sorbie Martin. Known to family as Aka (grandmother), Lisa will read from a series of hand-picked First Nations stories including her book Aka Sorbie and the Sardines, which was specially created for the exhibition. The story shares knowledge about Torres Strait fishing practices and food sources related to the ocean environment where Lisa grew up.

Children and their adults are invited to hear about prupa ilan pasin – the Torres Strait values teaching love, respect and care for family, community and the environment, woven into this immersive and interactive exhibition.

Are robots taking over HOTA?! Join guest artist Mark du Potiers for a sustainable robot-making workshop where kids and adults build colourful cardboard robots together!

RX78-2 currently showing in This Moment: Highlights from the White Rabbit Collection of Chinese Contemporary Art, is not your typical robot. The artist Kung Wen Yi 鞏文宜 has used traditional ceramic techniques and colouring known as sancai 三彩, associated with small-scale pottery vessels and figurines, to portray the larger than life, high tech robot.

In this workshop, we’ll explore the possibilities of a range of unlikely art materials to represent a multitude of possible robotic functionalities and fulfil our sci-fi fantasies!

Recommended for ages 6 – 12 years. Children must be accompanied by an adult or carer and cannot be left unsupervised at any time. Thank you for your understanding.

Saturday 13 June, 10:30am - 11:30am, The Studio, HOTA Gallery
