GOLD COAST TO HOST WOMEN’S STATE OF ORIGIN IN 2026!

The Gold Coast has scored another major sporting coup, securing hosting rights for Game Three of the 2026 Women’s State of Origin Series. For the first time, the Maroons will play the series decider on home soil at Cbus Super Stadium, Robina, on Thursday 28 May 2026.

Experience Gold Coast expects more than 20,000 fans to fill the stands and over one million viewers to tune in nationwide on the Nine Network, showcasing the city’s world-class event credentials. It marks the Gold Coast’s first State of Origin clash since hosting the relocated men’s Game Three in 2021 and adds to an already landmark year for women’s sport, with the AFC Women’s Asian Cup and the inaugural Women’s PGA Championship both taking place in March.

AACTA RETURNS TO THE GOLD COAST THIS FEBRUARY WITH A STELLAR LINEUP

The Gold Coast will shine even brighter as the AACTA Festival returns to HOTA from 4–8 February 2026 with a dynamic program celebrating Australia’s best in screen culture. Across five vibrant days, HOTA transforms into a creative hub featuring more than 100 events from global premieres, masterclasses and music showcases to outdoor screenings, workshops and family activities. 

This year’s lineup includes some of Australia’s most celebrated filmmakers and storytellers, including Baz Luhrmann, Anna Torv, David Michôd, Tony McNamara, Phoebe Tonkin - joining over 300 other on-stage participants across 100+ events. 

With the event attracting 15,000 visitors each year, Experience Gold Coast, Tourism and Events Queensland and Screen Queensland have extended the partnership with AACTA that will see the on the Awards and Festival on the Gold Coast through to 2028, reinforcing the city's reputation as Australia’s home of screen excellence.

AUSSIE BOXING HISTORY ON THE GOLD COAST THIS DECEMBER

Get ready for one of the most star-studded fight cards in Australian boxing history as world champion Jai Opetaia returns home to defend his IBF and Ring Magazine Cruiserweight titles. Boxing experts can’t recall a lineup this stacked in recent memory, and with Jai’s last two Gold Coast events selling out in record time, fans are urged to secure their seats early.  

Featuring a world-class undercard including Aussie heavyweight superstar Justis Huni, former world champion Jason Moloney, undefeated Gold Coaster Ben Mahoney and more, this blockbuster night will light up the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre on Saturday, 6 December.
